Unlike other biofuel plants in operation worldwide which use feedstocks such as sugar beet, wheat and sugar cane Elsair proposes to use existing waste streams in the food process.
The benefits to this are non-interference with the food chain and hence market prices. Elsair will use any waste feedstock with a high content of starch or sugar therefore optimising the yields for ethanol within its plant output and providing a sustainable waste management system with local food producers and suppliers.
Locatedin Ireland, the Plant will be close to all major transport routes for both raw materials and final product. Elsair’s plant will initially produce 5-10 million litres/year and can be expanded based on future feedstock contracts.
Elsair has recently completed a feasibility study for this project and will commence the planning process within the next three months. It is envisaged that this planning process will take between 6-9 months with plant construction taking a further 6-9 months.
